Many of us grew up desperate to collect the latest Happy Meal toys, but what about if these meals could be about to help the next generation’s minds, too? It looks as though McDonald’s are replacing Happy Meal toys with Roald Dahl books at long last.

Making The Change
The change to the famous Happy Meal toy is all taking place in New Zealand. No longer will anyone ordering the meal find a collectible plastic toy inside their box. No, it will instead be replaced with a book by one of the most renowned authors of all time: Roald Dahl.
Helping The Generation
Many reports have shown how there is a rapid decline in literacy levels in the next generation, and now New Zealand looks as though they want to do something about it. Could it really be as simple as a book in with their meals?

Spreading The Joy
Roald Dahl was the staple of many of our childhoods. Although his books were released many years ago, it looks as though it’s time for the next generation to experience the joy that his stories have brought to thousands of us all this time.
Other Additions
The books aren’t the only additions. They are also filled with mind breaks to help keep kids occupied while the Happy meal boxes come with puzzles and games related to the stories inside. It seems as though there is no end to the enjoyment from the change.

Helping Parents
The McDonald’s stores in New Zealand are hoping to help out parents. While some argue it’s down to the parents to ensure their kids are learning to read, others have praised the fast food chain for giving them a gateway to reading with their children.
A Huge Impact
It’s not just the impact on the next generation that has made these books so popular. Many of the Happy Meal toys would end up in landfills or in the ocean. Now, the change will help to cut down on the growing plastic issue.
Happy Meals have been a part of many of our lives, and so have Roald Dahl stories. Now, it seems as though the two are finally coming together as the next generation gets to enjoy all the stories for themselves.
