No Free Food
It might be easy to assume that people working at Chick-Fil-A get a free item or two off the menu. However, that’s not the case.
Many employees state that they are expected to buy their meals just like everyone else – even when they are working long shifts. As if that wasn’t enough, employees can’t head to other Chick-Fil-A restaurants and expect to get any discounts or freebies. They become paying customers on the other side of the register.
There are some things that Chick-Fil-A employees just can’t say, and “You’re welcome” is no exception. Rumor has it that S. Truett Cathy, the man behind the restaurant, was in a hotel when one of the staff replied with “My pleasure” instead, and it soon caught on.
Now, employees have it ingrained into them that they must always reply with “My pleasure” to make a customer’s experience feel more personal. Many can’t help but use the phrase at any opportunity.
Annual Campout Competition
A new Chick-Fil-A store can be music to many of our ears. However, some people take it further than others. The First 100 Campout has become a legend amongst franchise owners as customers will line up for days to be the first through the door.
Why? The first 100 customers get free Chick-Fil-A for a whole year. Just be prepared for plenty of tents and shenanigans from customers all waiting to get themselves through the door before anyone else.
Religion Is Important
One of the many things that people have learned about Chick-Fil-A over the years is how much the company follows the rules of religion.
Every store is shut on Sundays as they often expect their staff to head to church. While it might be an added bonus for people working in the restaurants, some of the company’s views landed them in hot water after comments were made from CEO Dan Cathy talking about his views on LGBT marriage.
Working Round The Clock
Some of us might feel as though the 9 to 5 grind at our desks is all too much, but it looks as though working at Chick-Fil-A comes with a whole host of added hours for the week.
Many employees state the shifts are long and it’s some of the most laborious work. However, one manager confessed they ended up working 60 hours a week after all that overtime. It wasn’t long before this became mandatory.
Chick-Fil-A likes to control many aspects of its employees’ lives – including how their male employees wear their facial hair. Apparently, they claim this is for “religious purposes,” but a petition going around claims the rule is outdated.
Not everyone like the mustached look, and those in favor of abolishing this rule think that having a nice beard might help employees’ self-confidence. While too much facial hair can be a health and cleanliness hazard, a nice, clean-cut beard can’t do any harm.
All Hail The Cows
The Eat Mor Chikin cows first appeared as a bid to push people away from traditional hamburgers and into the arms of Chick-Fil-A.
Now, the annual Cow Appreciation Day is a huge part of the company’s policy – and all employees must abide by the rules. The day means that anyone dressed as a cow or wearing cow print gets a free entree, but it can see hundreds of people desperate to get their food before the doors shut.
Have you ever wondered why employees at Chick-Fil-A are so polite? It’s because it’s literally drilled into them! Staff all have mandatory training that apparently shows them the steps they need to take with customers to make sure they are as polite as they can possibly be.
Some of this even includes pushing to hold eye contact, being confident, and always having a positive attitude no matter the situation. Employees are often told to make everyone feel like part of the family.
Above And Beyond
Many people feel that employees at Chick-Fil-A will go above and beyond their general duty of care to make sure they are treated as the best customers in the world.
It looks as though they might not be wrong. As well as walking customers to their car with an umbrella to make sure they don’t get wet, other employees have changed customers’ tires in the parking lot just to make sure they keep up with their overly polite persona.
No Phone Policy
Although Chick-Fil-A employees don’t have a lot of time to scroll through their phones, they might face hefty consequences if they do.
Employees confess the first warnings aren’t usually too harsh. However, that could change if they are caught as repeat offenders. Some managers will confiscate phones while others have been known to lock cell phones in safes until the end of their shift in case employees are tempted to check their messages or text their friends while working.
Slang Is Out
Many slang words have come and gone, but it doesn’t look as though they will all be making their way into Chick-Fil-A.
Yes, it turns out that one manager banned certain slang words from their restaurant altogether. Everyone was prohibited from saying more than 20 phrases, including “on fleek,” “chill,” “ratchet,” and “bae” if they wanted to keep their job. This manager wasn’t here to mess around. After all, politeness is just part of the package at Chick-Fil-A.
Have you ever wondered how the Chick-Fil-A employees keep up with all those orders at once? There’s a secret: they have to be pros at multitasking.
In fact, some employees say they had no choice but to learn how to do many things at once if they wanted to make it through the day. And yes, this does include making food, preparing drinks, taking orders, and memorizing change all at the same time. There’s often no end to it all.
Making The Food
Chick-Fil-A prides itself on its ingredients, and there’s a good reason. It turns out the company makes everything themselves, meaning that employees have to prepare themselves for a life in the kitchen if they want to keep their job.
That’s right; the lemons for their lemonade are freshly squeezed, the milkshakes are all made by hand, and the meals are all prepared in the store. Even everything down to the salad is handmade at every branch of Chick-Fil-A.
The Customer Is Always Right
Many of us have heard that the customer is always right, but could that be true? It is when you head to Chick-Fil-A.
Here, employees will usually go above and beyond the usual standards of fast food chains to make sure that a customer’s needs are met at all times. This means changing anything on the menu, handing out hundreds of packets of sauce, and agreeing with most things they say. As long as the customer is happy, right?
Free Food For You
Just because the employees don’t get free food doesn’t mean that we should suffer the same fate, right?
Thankfully, it turns out that we might be able to get a free meal or two. Asking for samples of Chick-n-Minis means that we could soon have an entire meal for free. Plus, using their app to order food can have many benefits while filling out surveys on any receipts can also offer up free burgers and cookies as a thank you.
They Can’t Charge
Sure, employees often confess their anger toward people who order all those extra sauces – especially as the restaurant sells giant bottles of their sauce – but it looks as though there is nothing they can do.
You want to get yourself 10 sauces for you one box of nuggets? Go ahead! The employees must get you all the sauce that you need, and won’t charge for the added extras. Just be warned: you might not be the most popular as a result.
They Rush Change
Handing over your change can sometimes see coins go tumbling down to the floor below. However, employees at Chick-Fil-A must quickly learn that keeping the customer happy is far more important than picking up any dropped change from the floor.
In fact, if they can’t pick it up in less than five seconds, then many employees are told to leave it on the floor where it will get picked up and thrown away when the store is cleaned.
Working at Chick-Fil-A means that employees need to be ready to take on some long days. We’re not talking a longer shift or two.
No, people running the breakfast rush need to be at the stores as early as 5.30am to make sure the kitchens are fully stocked for their opening. Employees busy themselves hand-preparing all those Chicken Biscuits as each batch takes around 30 minutes to prepare. There’s a lot of biscuits to make.
Those Chicken Biscuits have been enough to get many of us out of bed. After all, is there any better start to the day than with a tasty helping of chicken goodness? We thought not.
If you want to get your hands on even more of the good stuff then merely head into any restaurant after 10:30 AM and ask for some. The chances are many stores will be throwing away the leftovers and could give them away for free.
Milkshakes Are Fully Customizable
Many people claim there is a secret menu at Chick-Fil-A. The reality? Employees confess they can make almost anything they ask for without having to use secret codes or hide any items on the menu.
That includes the milkshakes. If you want to know what all those flavors taste like when they’re mixed together then simply go ahead and ask. Employees must be there to make up whatever flavor milkshake you like – no matter how bizarre!
Crispy Waffle Fries
Ah, those Waffle Fries have been the dreams of many over the years. There’s just something about the potatoey goodness that many of us can’t get enough of – and we’re not alone.
So what about if you want that extra crunch with your meal? Have no fear; there is a way to get crispy Waffle Fries after all. All you need to do is ask for them to be “well done” when placing your order.
You Can Buy Chick-fil-A Sauce
Ever worried that you have to ration your Chick-fil-A Sauce when you are enjoying a tub with your friends or family?
Well, there is no need, especially since one is able have all the sauce they want, at the right price. For just $2, you can purchase a catering-sized tub of whichever sauce you enjoy from the fast food joint. The price seems too good to be true, but we’re not lying. Anyone can have Chick-fil-A sauce at home at all times.
Every fast food outlet needs to cater to their vegetarian customers. Chick-fil-A knows this well enough and like any reputable fast food restaurant chain, the company knows what the people want and puts together some pretty enticing deals.
Take this one, for example. If you turn up to your local Chick-fil-A and all you order is a bun with American cheese as a filling, they will give you a 49-cent grilled cheese sandwich. An offer has never tasted so good.
No Need To Freeze
When you are a chain of fast food restaurants called Chick-fil-A, you better live up to the brand name by supplying some grade-A chicken.
Thankfully, this fast food conglomerate fulfills that promise and for a good reason. Unlike other competitors, who have a tendency to have chicken frozen in the back, ready to defrost, Chick-fil-A only uses fresh chicken. It’s never frozen. The finger-lickin’ goodness arrives at restaurant in fresh condition and then the staff bread it themselves.
The Secret’s In The Name
While Chick-fil-A seems pretty self-explanatory, there’s actually a couple of meanings behind it. Not only does the “Chick” and “fil-A” allude to “chicken” and “fillet,” but the A specifically stands for “Grade A.”
It’s implying that the chicken served at this restaurant is of the highest caliber. While the letter “A” has had differing connotations in other contexts (take The Scarlet Letter, for example), the “A” in Chick-fil-A is as good as it gets, as far as breaded chicken is concerned.
While many products are believed to have top secret recipes to ensure that they always remain head and heels above the competitors, Chick-fil-A doesn’t have such concerns.
As a result, the recipe for their famous sauce is no secret whatsoever. In fact, the restaurant chain posted the recipe on their Twitter account. It’s confirmed that the recipe consists of honey mustard, BBQ, and ranch. Demystifying one of the company’s strongest assets doesn’t seem to have affected their net worth in the slightest.
First Come, First Served For Free
Now, we don’t know how many fast food restaurants have the following deal. However, Chick-fil-A has an awesome incentive for hungry customers to visit whenever they open up a new branch.
Basically, every time a new Chick-fil-A opens, the first 100 guests to show up and place orders will get free food for an entire year! You’d be amazed to see the people who will arrive early in the morning to lineup for the prospect of free chicken for a year. They’ve been doing this since 2003.
RIP – The Sweet Potato Waffle Fry
As previously mentioned, Chick-fil-A has many outside-the-box dishes to choose from, both on their regular and supposedly “secret” menus. However, one dish that customers can’t seem to find in any of the branches anymore is nothing more than an urban legend these days.
Apparently, there was a time when one could order an official Chick-fil-A sweet potato waffle fry. The dish was originally tested in 2011 and even had cinnamon marshmallow dipping sauce on the side. However, it was discontinued after low demand.
It should come as no surprise that Chick-fil-A can be found all over the United States of America. As of 2019, the chain has joints in a staggering 47 states.
Although their isn’t a restaurant in Hawaii (as of yet), there is one Hawaiian-themed branch, which located in Fayetteville, Georgia, of all places. It is a whopping 8,000 square feet and has plenty of pork and seafood options. Other states that don’t have a Chick-fil-A include Alaska and Vermont. Shouldn’t take long though before that changes…
While Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays, that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying some finger licking goodness during the final day of the weekend.
In a blog post on the company’s website, it is written that one can purchase “reheatable trays…that come with pre-chilled nuggets or Chick-n-Strips that you can bake in the convenience of your own home.” If you plan in advance and have everything in place, there is no day that one has to miss out on some good ol’ Chick-fil-A.
There’s A Secret Menu
While it makes perfect sense that, like all fast-food joints, Chick-fil-A would have a menu to choose one’s preferred dish, not everyone knows that there is also a secret menu. We’re not entirely sure how to find it (it’s probably online.)
However, it is believed that the menu includes a variety of cool combinations such as root beer floats, double decker sandwiches, chicken quesadillas, spicy chicken biscuits and cheese fries, to name a few. At least, this is what Country Living claims.
Secret Grilled Cheese
There are so many great items on the menu at Chick-Fil-A that it can be hard to know where to start. So what about when you’re in the mood for something a little simpler? Perhaps you’re on a budget but still want to get your fill of the restaurant?
Chick-Fil-A has you covered. Believe it or not, but you can get a grilled cheese for just 49 cents if you ask for a bun with American cheese on it.
Make Your Own
Believe it or not, but there are ways that we can enjoy Chick-Fil-A at all times of the day – even on Sundays.
The restaurants actually sell reheatable trays that come pre-prepared with Chick-n-Strips or a selection of their nuggets that we can simply heat up at home and enjoy. No longer do we have to drag ourselves through those chicken-free 24 hours. We can enjoy the deliciousness all from the comfort of our own home.
Trade In Toys
Did you know that you could be missing out on free ice cream? Okay, it might not be free, but it’s a bonus that many of us have missed out on over the years.
Toys with kids meals can be traded in at the counter in return for a small ice cream cup. Do you know what that means? Everyone of all ages can enjoy a kids meal and trade in their added bonus for a sweet treat instead.
It looks as though every aspect of the menu at Chick-Fil-A has been considered – including the pickles. That’s right; employees are even expected to make these additions in each restaurant.
Employees must cut up cucumbers and soak them for three days before they can make their way to the customers. It appears as though the company has left no stone unturned when it comes to adding their personal touches on their items – no matter how small they are.
Calling in sick to work might seem like a nice idea – especially when we have a temperature or feel as though our whole world is going to end – but employees at Chick-Fil-A might not have much of a choice.
Many employees confess they have been expected to turn up to work with fevers, bronchitis, and sprains without letting the customers know. Sure, they have health and safety standards, but some employees could be working while under the weather.
