Why make coffee at home when you can just run to the corner coffee shop and get the barista to make it exactly how you like it? You feel like the coffee you make at home just lacks that certain something, right?
Well, with this hack, you’ll be eager to jump out of bed in the morning when you know that you can make this perfect cup in just minutes. Essentially, you’ll need to add these spices to your coffee filter with the beans before brewing and – voila! You’ll have instant coffee house quality in the comfort of your own home.
So, there’s actually quite a variety of spices that you’ll need in order to craft your perfect cup. You should have, on hand, the following things: cardamom, cloves, ginger, cinnamon, and somewhat surprisingly, black peppercorns.
If you want a very subtle flavor in your cup and feel like just testing the waters before committing to going “all the way” with flavor, we recommend starting off with 1/8 teaspoon black peppercorns, a half teaspoon of cinnamon, and a quarter teaspoon (or even less) of everything else. This combo will definitely give your cup a distinctive “chai” vibe, without overwhelming you. Of course, practice makes perfect, and if the flavor is simply too subtle, you can double up on the amount of the spices, or try different ratios.
Plus, one of the most important benefits of this is that your wallet (and waistline) will thank you. Daily runs to the coffee shop can add up over time, taking a nice chunk of change out of your paycheck each month (and yes, we know you have your Rewards card, but still!)
You also don’t know exactly what you’re drinking when it’s prepared by someone else. Have a nut allergy or lactose sensitivity? You can tell the barista all you like, but it’s never a guarantee that the overworked coffee shop employee is going to remember to exclude the things you’re allergic to.
