Brussels sprouts rarely hold a good image because of their sour taste. With grilling season arriving, why not try converting bitter Brussels sprouts into something delicious? Try roasting them as it really helps make them taste better, and the process is easy to do.
Why Roast Brussels Sprouts?
There are several advantages to grilling Brussels sprouts. The high heat caramelizes the vegetable’s sugars, increasing the sweetness. It even adds a smoky flavor. They offer many health benefits when eaten, like having healthy skin and stronger muscles, preventing disease, curing eye problems, and reducing wrinkles. So, if you didn’t like them before, it’s time to give them another chance.
Ingredients
● 1 pound Brussels sprouts
● 3 tablespoons of olive oil
● 1 tablespoon chopped garlic
● 1 tablespoon dry mustard
● 1/4th tablespoon of black pepper
● 1/4th tablespoon of crushed kosher salt
● Some fresh parsley for dressing
● Some grated parmesan for garnish
Preparing Brussels Sprouts
Before cooking the meal, give the vegetable a good rinse to remove any dirt or germs. Cut down the ends of the sprouts and trim all the leaves. You can even blanch them if you’d like. It is basically a process of boiling Brussels sprouts for a minute or two and then instantly cooling them down in a bowl full of ice. Once you are done rinsing and blanching them, start the grill to medium-low. Take a bowl and start mixing all the ingredients – Brussels sprouts, olive oil, garlic, mustard, salt, black pepper, and parsley. Now, you have three methods of grilling the vegetable according to your liking.
Grilling Techniques
● Using Skewers – Take the mix and start placing them on the metal skewers, leaving half-inch space between all. Grill them by turning them around until appropriately cooked for 10-15 minutes. Garnish them with grated cheese, and they are ready to be devoured.
● Using Foil – Chop the prepared sprouts evenly, place them on foil, and slightly crumble the edges of the sheet. Put the foil directly on the grill for about 15-20 minutes until turned crispy and golden. Use cooking gloves to remove the tin foil after cooking.
● Grilling Directly – Simply put the Brussels sprouts on the grill, making sure they don’t slip out. Roast them for about 10-15 minutes, dress them with parsley if you’d like, and you are done.
You can either eat Brussels sprouts alone or throw some barbequed chicken or steak into the mix.
