With Easter just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to celebrate. Will you create an awesome Easter egg hunt for your friends, family, and loved ones? Will you bake cookies and hand them out around your neighborhood? Or will you just buy yourself an Easter egg and eat the whole thing in under 10 seconds? Whatever you decide to do, you might want to think about making your own chocolate egg. Not only can you save money, but it’s also the perfect personalized present!

What You’ll Need
To make your very own DIY chocolate egg, you’ll need to buy the egg molds. While you can create your own, it can be incredibly fiddly and time-consuming, so it’s best to make your way down to your local department store for molds that can found on the shelves. You’ll also need the highest quality chocolate you can buy. To make a strong and sturdy egg, it’s best to find chocolate that is at least 70% cocoa or above. Aside from this, you then just need icing, other chocolate, or candy to decorate your egg or eggs!

How You Make It
It’s actually fairly easy to make your own chocolate Easter egg because you essentially just have to melt down chocolate and cool it down in the mold! To do this, melt the chocolate gradually in a glass bowl that sits above a pan full of boiling water. Let the chocolate melt until it reaches around 130°F. Stir the chocolate as it melts, and then remove the bowl from the heat. Now, let the chocolate cool a little, before pouring it into the molds. Use a pastry brush to make sure the chocolate completely covers the mold and creates the egg-like structure you are looking for. Pop in the refrigerator for around 1 hour, and then remove both halves from their molds.

Now It’s Time To Decorate!
If you want to create a hollow egg, then simply melt some more chocolate and past it along the seams to create a form of chocolate cement. Alternatively, you can fill your egg with candy first before sticking each side together. Once you have done this, the egg is yours to decorate how you wish.
Will you be making your own Easter eggs? We bet you didn’t realize it was so easy!
