There are some food brands that we can’t live without, and their names almost make it feel as though they are part of the family. So what if we told you that some of the most famous food brands really were named after real people?
Sara Lee
This is a huge name in desserts, and Sara Lee was once a real person, too. A baker named Charles Lubin once sold a cheesecake named after his daughter, Sara Lee, and later used it as the name of his business. The Consolidated Foods Corporation eventually stuck with the name for the entire brand.
Captain Morgan
Sir Henry Morgan was the one behind the name of this drink as he raided Spanish ships all across the Caribbean. Although he was sent to prison, Morgan later became the Lieutenant-Governor of Jamaica after he was knighted for his work.
Chef Boyardee
This chef was once working in hotels across West Virginia and New York before deciding a life in Cleveland running his own restaurant was the way forward. Chef Boyardee later began to sell his own pasta sauce, and now it seems as though the rest is history.
Famous Amos
Those cookies taste so good we can almost imagine them now. Amazingly, the company all started in the ‘70s after Wallace Amos’ friends suggested he stopped sending his cookies to potential clients and cold them across the nation instead. The first store opened in 1975 before the goods were sold to grocery stores everywhere.
Mrs. Fields
Another competitor on the cookie scene is Mrs. Fields, and this baker first went into business back in 1977. However, it wasn’t until 1990 that Fields began to franchise her company and sold it on. Amazingly, there are now over 650 stores all across the nation.
Marie Callender
It wasn’t Marie behind this company, but her son: Don. The businessman began to bake and sell his pies to restaurants at the end of the ‘40s but knew no one would want to buy a pie named after himself. Don decided to use his mother’s name, and now sells pies in stores across America.
We might use these food brands nearly every day, but who would have guessed they were named after real people? Now, we can finally put a story to a name after all this time.
